Poetry - An Accident in the Evening (2001) - by Phil Brown

satori at seven-thirty

I had just gone out
to get some Thai food

freshly showered
talc dappled
thong-slapping my way
up the street
when I saw

the full moon:
a celestial button
caught on chiffon clouds

amazing, I thought

holy shit
look at that thing
big as the Hindenburg

I noticed other stuff too

recent rain showers
had left the bitumen
pitted with beautiful billabongs

the air was frangipani:
the trees of my street
heads of dark coral
floating in the air

even cars seemed nice
whooshing like running creeks

unreal / lovely

that's just how it was
around seven-thirty
going for Thai food

that's just how it was
