After so much love and loss
I am simply content to stare
Out of my new window.
The city burns. The dreamers toss.
Sleep - I'll soon be there.
But now, a cigarette's glow
Is comfort - and the sparkling view
Past the stark sill.
Sorrow dissipates over the city.
Again I promise I'll start anew
Tomorrow, nudged by the first chill,
Begrudgingly, to the day's duty.
Now the evening is finally done.
The moon's clear and white.
I lie down in clean air.
On the bridge buses still run
And the city remains alight.
Sleep - I'll soon be there
