CONSIDER THE HAMSTER

Consider the hamster.

He is small but lion-hearted,
quivering in his cage.

His life is a treadmill,
a bed of straw,
a dish of water.

Consider the hamster,
his golden wisdom.

He neither reaps nor sows
there behind his tiny bars.

But neither can he go to the pictures
or read magazines
or eat take-away Chinese food.

No suntan has he
nor lounge suite upon which to recline.

Therefore consider the hamster ... if you must.
